Apparently there are issues running FUSE in LabNet…

I’ve been informed that:

  1. although FUSE is installed in our LabNet images, ordinary users don’t have the permissions required to use it, and

  2. at some point after Ubuntu 22.04, the fuse package started to break the whole system.

This is an unfortunate confluence of issues.

I will get in touch with the LabNet people about the permissions issue. In the meantime, however, I gather that installing libfuse2 or libfuse2t64 on Ubuntu should be safe… or probably libfuse-dev? If you use Ubuntu, you might want to test this out in a VM first and then maybe write angry emails to an OS vendor that ships packages known to break systems.

Due to all of these issues, I am also extending the deadline for this assignment to Wednesday.
